The thing that separates these guys from legions of later dickaround noise rockers is that, much like prime era Sonic Youth, they had a real talent for uncanny hooks, an intelligent and purposeful use of so called "noise" (i. e., dissonant and atonal music), tons of variety in their music, and interesting, often haunting lyrics.
