Solitude stays relevant in the format as long as powerful creatures are being played

They cost four mana, can be played for free turn one with an opening hand grip, and then typically are good solid value for four later, but rarely broken

With a few token doublers (Elspeth from Tarkir: Dragonstorm is particularly good here) it put in the work, but you'll need to spend a lot of time building up your mana first

Even beyond Standard and Pioneer red decks, drawing cards when targeted makes this a valuable card

Despite the creature in question providing some very aggressive bonuses, its not often that you see a scheming side to mono red

With enough ramp you can purposefully deplete it to death repeatedly to utilize its toolbox abilities
