I think this issue has been addressed in previous threads, but in general, I look at it THIS way: Structure of the card physically changed in some way, other than trying to bend it back out or flatten a dent (good luck)
Then there's Blastoise ex, a straight-up powerhouse with damage negation and a scalable attack that only gets better the more Energy you dump into it
Even if you dont get to meld this card, you can still get a lot of value from this card since it still gives a 1-mana discount and it is very easy to cast since it only costs 3-mana

The power level is high, the bonus sheet is strong, and there are great cards for every format to entice you to crack packs
This has included the ability to battle other trainers, build new decks, and (most importantly/potentially problematically) feel that serotonin hit of ripping a new pack of cards to add to the collection
